Mission

Panorama Ridge Riding Club is a non-profit organization who’s mission is:
-to provide a unique equestrian venue for instructors and riders at a variety of skill levels, ages and disciplines in Joe Brown Park of Surrey
-to provide education and training for riders and horses in the forms of clinics, schooling days and access to adjacent trails
-to support local riders and Canadian Pony Club
-to preserve a heritage connecting people and horses

History

Panorama Ridge Riding Club was started in 1968 with just a few members, a small ring and meetings at a private farm. The Riding Club was originally formed to facilitate a venue for Panorama Ridge Pony Club which was not allowed to lease or own property due to insurance restrictions. As membership grew a second ring, a boxcar, concession and jump shed were added. We have had help from local families in the building trades who have contributed a lot of knowledge, materials and many hours of hard work.

PRRC is a volunteer run club funded by membership fees with support from the West Panorama Ridge Ratepayers, the City of Surrey and Surrey Parks Department. Riding Club membership dues are used to pay for insurance, upkeep and repairs.
Several local residents still support the Riding Club with manpower and supplies even though they or their children may not ride any longer.

In 2004 we lost the use of the gravel pit which was the home to a cross country course. The loss of this has been felt by riders from all over the city. Decades of training on the banks, sand slopes, drops, stairs, ditches, logs and trakehners have taken at least two local riders to their Olympic dreams.

The replacement of the cross country course has been a priority and work began in the spring of 2007. The city of Surrey has helped with the replacement and relocation of many elements, but the costs have been born by the riding club with help from Horse Council of BC grants. Many elements are up-dated and new ones are planned. PRRC has the only public cross country course in the city of Surrey.

In Febuary 2019 we started a major upgrade to our facility which included new cross country jumps, a bank/step and new dressage ring footing.

The large arena hogfuel footing was replaced with an all weather footing in 2021. Four small paddocks were replaced at the south end of the small arena.

Surrey Parks replaced the boards on our bleachers by the main arena. Thank you very much.

April 2023 sand has now been added to the arenas, more upgrades are in the works for 2023/2024. Fence repair/replacement around arenas, stadium jump upgrades to safety cups along with additional jumps.
